On March 18, 2012, LAOE was able to educate 16 Laotian women on the benefits of breast and cervical cancer screening. This was our best turnout, and we are only going stronger. Thank you to the Church of the Nazarene in Elgin Illinois for allowing us the space and technology to inform our community.
Our next education session will be on April 7, 2012 at 3:00PM, at 35W645 Tollgate Rd in Dundee IL. We invite all women to learn about how they can keep themselves healthy, so they can take care of their family and their community.
Why is this program so important? Laotian women have the lowest rate of preventative healthcare screening out of all other Asian communities. We need to change the way we view preventative health care. We need to assist our mothers, grandmothers, aunts and sisters in finding the affordable health care that they think is unavailable to them. There are resources available to them and we can help. Translation issues? We personally escort women to their appointments so that we can make sure they understand what is going on with their health.
